Abstract

Now You See Me, Now You Don’t: Hands and Holes is a study of magic, encompassing daily private rituals, regional lore, and the study of mass-culture industry magicians like David Copperfield, David Blaine, and Dorothy Dietrich. Using photography, sculpture, installation, and case studies of celebrity magicians, I examine simulations of magical power and question who has access to the magical and supernatural.
