Description/Abstract
This presentation, "Strategies for Executing Effective Library Programming," explores the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of graduate student-focused library initiatives, with a particular emphasis on the Graduate Research Roundtable Series at Syracuse University. The session delves into key components of program development, including assessing graduate student needs through surveys and direct consultations, designing workshops tailored to various disciplines, securing funding through institutional and external sources, and implementing effective marketing and outreach strategies. Additionally, it addresses logistical considerations such as venue selection, scheduling based on student availability, and the use of digital platforms for event registration and attendance tracking.
We also examine common challenges, such as low attendance, discipline-specific engagement barriers, and resource limitations, while offering practical solutions through faculty collaborations, targeted outreach, incentives, and hybrid programming options. By leveraging strategic partnerships with subject librarians, faculty, and external vendors, libraries can create sustainable, high-impact programming that enhances graduate student research skills, academic success, and professional development. The session underscores the importance of continuous assessment and adaptation, ensuring that library initiatives remain relevant, accessible, and impactful in supporting graduate students throughout their academic journeys.
