Description/Abstract
A survey was conducted in Mandoto, a rural town at the center of Madagascar, to investigate the reasons behind school dropouts. While there were many contributor factors, the two most identified ones were financial issues, and loss of interest. Rural education requires financial investment that should be allocated strategically to reform the system in alignment with the needs of the community. Besides, many teachers prioritize grades over skills development. And those who struggle to learn feel undervalued especially in elementary school and start to lose interest in education as they grow older. Institutions in the countryside should foster a more interactive and supportive environment where children can explore their curiosity and receive proper nurturing. Although implementing such a change is challenging due to corruption and poverty, it is not impossible and worth striving for.
