Description/Abstract

Graduate education plays a central role in many institutions’ academic missions and revenue models, yet national data from the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) indicate that enrollment and application patterns have shifted unevenly over the past decade, varying by discipline, credential type, and institutional context. At the same time, the graduate student population is increasingly diverse in modality and life stage, with more students enrolling part time, studying online or in hybrid formats, and returning mid-career. These changes present significant implications for academic and research libraries, particularly as graduate students’ research needs remain intensive while their schedules and pathways grow more complex and non-linear. In response, libraries are developing intentional, layered models of graduate research support that integrate instruction, collections, partnerships, and dedicated spaces to create cohesive ecosystems designed to promote graduate student success.
