Description/Abstract
This report seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies presented by the Veterans Education Task Force in 2014. These strategies were: 1) establishing an annual Veterans Training Academy to train faculty and staff from higher education institutions on effectively supporting student veterans; 2) providing competitive funding grants to incentivize the development of innovative programs aimed at recruiting and retaining student veterans until degree completion; and 3) creating a comprehensive online educational resource, including a program to translate military service into college credits, to assist student veterans in their academic pursuits. This comprehensive evaluation, funded through the Veteran Reconnect Grant and conducted by Syracuse University’s D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families under the guidance of the Tennessee Board of Regents, aimed to determine the extent to which state policy actions have successfully addressed barriers to student veteran access and completion in higher education institutions within Tennessee. These institutions included both community colleges and the different locations of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology.
