Abstract

How can I share my entire study abroad experience in a short article? With all of the photos, stories, challenges, new experiences, comparisons and travels from a year abroad, it can’t be done. In a series of short articles, however, it is possible to catch a glimpse of all of the opportunities available when one decides to study abroad. For “Journey” magazine, I compiled stories from a variety of students’ study abroad experiences to show the diverse opportunities and possibilities available through study abroad. As more and more students study abroad and travel to new countries, the range of possibilities continues to grow. For this magazine, I found a number of students who were willing to share their overwhelming positive experiences with me. The magazine features a variety of articles from photo stories to illustration stories to articles written by other students to articles I wrote based on interviews with students. For each article, I chose a story type that would do justice to the student’s story. I designed each spread to reflect the experiences described in the article, creating a magazine with a variety of different spread designs. Not only did these diverse designs reflect the range of experiences included in the magazine, but they also created visual breaks throughout the magazine. After reading the magazine, I hope students considering studying abroad are inspired to go, create their own memories, and return to share their own stories and experiences.
