Abstract

This dissertation summarizes my contributions to the construction and commissioning of the Upstream Tracker detector of the LHCb experiment, including its module and stave construction, detector assembly and carbon dioxide cooling. In addition, we search for the presence of virtual Majorana neutrinos in the reactions B− → D(∗)+μ−μ− using 5.4fb-1 of data collected in the LHCb detector from 13TeV pp collisions in Run 2. In the absence of signals we set upper limits on the branching fractions.
