rare books, monographs, Juan de Torquemada, Latin American history
Chicana/o Studies | History | Latin American History | Spanish Literature
Andre Preibish describes two rare books by Juan De Torquemada and Antonio Alcedo, which shed light on colonial Mexico and America, respectively. Although much of Torquemada's writing is plagiarized, he cites previously unknown authors and works. Antonio Alcedo, meanwhile, provides an encyclopedic description of Spanish colonies and of the western hemisphere during the eighteenth century.
