Local Ladies: How Gender and Geography Shape Social Media Strategy

Abstract

This study aims to draw connections between the electoral efforts of women in local politics and reveal strategic patterns and opportunities for female candidates in future elections. The research conducted seeks to pinpoint content that provides women candidates with the most effective means of connecting to voters. While social media has not yet become an essential component of local elections, certain tactics can be employed to help improve candidate to constituent communications. The tactics the research reveals that will aid local female candidates are accessibility, authenticity, legitimacy, simplicity, and femininity.
